THE UNTOLD STORY OF BLACK HAWK DOWN
One of the few photos that shows Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart (right) and Master Sergeant Gary Gordon (center) together. In October 1993 the two Delta snipers volunteered to be put down at the crash site of the second Black Hawk shot down (Super 6-4) to defend the survivors.
What the film does not show:
After the Black Hawk (Super 6-2) lifted off again, it came under heavy fire and the crew returned fire while the pilots tried to get out of the danger zone as fast as they could. Master Sergeant Brad Halling (left in the picture) was working one of the miniguns when an RPG hit the side of the Black Hawk and took off one of his legs. 
The helicopter made it out of the battle area to the port, where it put down in a controlled crash landing. Halling was treated and survived, but lost his left leg. The Delta Force veteran still leads an active life today, one that would inspire men half his age. You can find him on Instagram at @bradhalling. His posts are worth following, and some of the stories are hard to believe.
